10 genius ways to use an ice cube tray (that isn’t freezing water)

Written By Unknown on Monday 20 March 2017 | 17:09

And we’re particularly big fans of the freezer’s partner in crime, the ice cube tray.

Why, you ask? You might be surprised to learn that the humble ice cube tray does SO much more that just freeze boring ol’ water. Here are 10 things you can do with yours.

1. Make frozen chocolate treats.

The best chocolate is the chocolate you make yourself.

You can adapt our uber-famous Raspberry Ripple by popping a raspberry and a little coconut into each cube, then pouring the chocolate mixture over and leaving to set. A healthy treat that’s just a freezer door away.

You could also replace the raspberry for a blob of peanut butter… just sayin’…

2. Freeze extra herbs.

Got a fridge full of about-to-go-off herbs? Chop ‘em, mix ‘em and freeze ‘em in olive oil. Then just pop out and use as the base for all your stove-top sauces, stews, hashes and curries.

3. Freeze extra stock.

A new kind of stock cube! Freeze excess stock in handy single serves so you always have a nourishing broth on hand to glaze those veggies.

4. Freeze leftover condiments.

Whipped up a batch of Homemade BBQ Sauce you’re not going to get through? Freeze the excess in your ice cube tray and pull out when the kids need something without 63 teaspoons of sugar per bottle to smother their snags in.

5. Iced coffee!

Freeze a pot of your favourite brew then add to a glass of your favourite milk for a very Good Morning.

6. Iced chai!

Or why not try our recipe for Iced Vanilla Chai Lattes and freeze that?

7. Portion control your gelatin gummies.

Pop a couple out when you need them, so you don’t eat the whole batch of gut lovin’ goodness at once! This works particularly well for our Coconut “Marshmallows”.

8. Step up your smoothie game.

Freeze up your favourite runny smoothie ingredients (yoghurt, coconut milk, almond milk, regular milk) to make your blend extra cold and creamy.

9. Make mini ice blocks.

Whip up a batch of our Chia Peaches + Cream Popsicles or our Cherry Mudslide Popsicles and pour the mixture into your ice cube tray.

Then cut your popsicle sticks in half and rest in the mixture before leaving to freeze. Little kids and big ones will LOVE these.

10. Jazz up your H2O.

Plain ol’ water a little boring for your taste? Skip the soft drink and freeze straight up lemon or lime juice to add a little freshness (and nutrition hit) to every glass. Cheers!
